About Me

I most recently worked as a senior consultant and internal coach to the team at Oxford Insights (OI). I lead OI’s work on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in procurement.

During my time at Oxford Insights (OI), I have worked with private, public and third sector clients managing projects to provide better and fairer services through sustainable policies. A key focus has been using procurement as a lever to work towards diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and justice.

In 2020 I worked with the UK Government Digital Service to assess gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in ICT procurement practices and policies in five countries: South Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Indonesia, and Malaysia. I led the direction of the project, starting with research and interviews into the normative aspects of the topic as well as interviews with in-country policymakers and suppliers owned and operated by underrepresented / historically marginalised groups. I set the project's intellectual agenda: helping GDS Global Digital Marketplace (GDMP) suppliers mainstream GESI in their work; build knowledge of GESI across the FCDO and procurement officials in the five countries; dismantle systematic barriers to inclusion in procurement; and help them measure their work. To do this I led two client virtual workshops and produced two reports, one aimed at procurement officials across the five GDMP countries, and another with a global audience both of which included practical recommendations for change. In addition, I created an open-source quantitative framework, a universal tool for countries to monitor GESI practices and evaluate progress. This framework has now been used by all five countries to conduct a baseline analysis. I then conceived of and developed an open-source qualitative framework (partly funded by the CSO the Open Contracting Partnership), aimed at providing an even fuller picture to help countries develop policies specifically aimed at inclusivity. I also aim to adapt both frameworks for private sector use in the coming months.

I have also taken a wider lens to procurement with a focus on sustainability in my work. As part of a recent project with the Open Data Institute and Microsoft I conducted research on net-zero value chains and the circular economy.

As a coach, I helped the team focus on their career development, using their values to drive change and work as an internal advocate to ensure each team member works on projects they are passionate about. I take a DEI approach to coaching with the aim of empowering each individual to enact change. This experience also helps me work with clients across different sectors to better understand the importance of and value of DEI enabling them to change behaviours and create new policies.

I am a speaker and advocate for gender equality and human rights with a focus on tech. I have spoken at two UNESCO international conferences in Paris and Beijing and participated in an expert meeting in Geneva at UN Human Rights. I was interviewed in front of a live audience by Northern Ireland Future Screens on my work on DEI in procurement and how I have used my experience in marketing and e-commerce to build my career.
